ChatGPT, Claude and Grok suffered overlapping outages on Thursday morning
OpenAI and Anthropic confirmed elevated errors across their flagship models, and all three services were back online by mid-afternoon.

OpenAI's ChatGPT, Anthropic's Claude and xAI's Grok all experienced outages at around the same time on Thursday before returning to service, The Verge reported. The overlapping failures affected three of the most widely used AI chatbots and their developer tools. Anthropic's incident began at around 9:41 AM ET, according to BleepingComputer. Anthropic's status page initially reported elevated errors on requests to Claude Mythos 5.1, Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Opus 5, then expanded the list to include Mythos/Fable 5, Opus 4.8 and Opus 4.6. Affected users saw requests fail or return errors. Anthropic said at 10:49 AM ET that it was continuing to work on a fix. OpenAI's outage started at approximately 10:58 AM ET and hit ChatGPT and Codex. OpenAI's status page listed at least 15 affected components, including Conversations, Login, ChatGPT Work, Codex in ChatGPT Desktop, Search, File uploads, Voice mode, GPTs, Image Generation, Deep Research, Agent, ChatGPT Atlas, Sites and Connectors. "We are investigating the issue for the listed services," OpenAI said. The ChatGPT outage came hours before OpenAI released its GPT-6 Astra model. OpenAI did not say whether the disruption was related to launch preparations, and BleepingComputer noted that ChatGPT has frequent outages. Neither company has published a root cause, and no source linked the three incidents to a shared cause.
