The Administrative Office of the US Courts said on Thursday that a cyberattack on government contractor BAE Systems has disrupted the Bankruptcy Noticing Center. The system produces and sends bankruptcy notices for every federal bankruptcy court in the country. According to the office's statement, all access to the BNC systems and websites that BAE runs for the judiciary is unavailable. The affected sites are bnc.uscourts.gov, bankruptcynotices.uscourts.gov, notices.uscourts.gov and the National Creditor Registration Service. Production of bankruptcy notices has stopped. The office said it is in contact with the affected courts and coordinating with BAE, which is investigating the incident and working to restore operations. The Record reports that the office did not answer questions about the nature of the attack or whether any data was stolen. BleepingComputer said spokespersons for the US Courts and BAE Systems were not immediately available for comment. BAE Systems is one of the world's largest defense contractors. It also provides enterprise IT, cloud infrastructure and cybersecurity services to military, intelligence and civilian government agencies. Debtors, creditors and attorneys who rely on court notices are directly affected by the outage. The incident also shows how an attack on a single contractor can disrupt a service used across the entire federal court system.
