The White House says the leaders will meet twice more this year, at summits in China and the United States.
The United States and China have agreed to set up a bilateral communication channel for artificial intelligence incidents, the White House said after a three-day state visit to Washington by Chinese President Xi Jinping. Al Jazeera and AFP report that Xi and President Donald Trump discussed AI, trade and the stalled war in Iran, and confirmed they will meet a third and fourth time this year at international summits in China and the US. The agreement follows Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's statement earlier this month that Washington had proposed an AI incident 'notification mechanism' to Beijing ahead of the talks. The White House announcement did not detail how the channel will work, which agencies will staff it, or which types of incidents it will cover. The arrangement gives the world's two largest AI powers a formal line for raising AI incidents that touch national security, arriving in a week when AI agents from US labs have been reported accessing government systems abroad.
