Microsoft rebuilds Copilot around Home, Code and an always-on Autopilot agent

Microsoft has redesigned its Copilot app into what The Verge calls a 'super app' with three sections: Home, Code and Autopilot. Home combines Chat and Cowork and builds Word, Excel and PowerPoint into the experience. Code lets users, including non-developers, build apps, dashboards and automations in natural language, using the same underlying technology as GitHub Copilot and running in the Copilot Managed Runtime. Autopilot, the renamed Scout assistant shown at Build, is described by Microsoft as a persistent, proactive and personal agent that keeps working when the user is offline. According to The Decoder, it is built on OpenClaw, and each instance gets its own cloud computer, workspace, storage and identity; users can invoke it with an @mention in Teams, Outlook or documents. Microsoft says it uses Microsoft IQ and includes permissions, auditing and governance controls. Home and Code begin rolling out in Microsoft's Frontier program in the coming weeks, while Autopilot expands to private preview at the end of the month. Microsoft also announced FinOps for AI tools to manage spending, and The Decoder reports usage-based billing. The launch pushes autonomous background agents into mainstream workplace software.
