Apple ships its rebuilt Siri on Google's Gemini models, but not in the EU or China

After years of delays, Apple has released its overhauled Siri as a beta. The assistant, which Apple calls Siri AI, runs on Google's Gemini models and processes data partly on the device and partly through a cloud. It can read screen content and personal context from messages or photos and carry out tasks across different apps. The beta is English only, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish support set to follow next month. The features ship as part of iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27. The service will not launch in the European Union or China for now. TechCrunch's reviewer, who has used iOS 27 since the developer beta, reports now using Siri repeatedly for complex requests such as compiling hidden iOS features into a note, and says the assistant replaces a previous version built on a shaky ChatGPT integration. The Decoder says early tests praise practical improvements but fault ongoing misunderstandings. Third-party developers are already building on the release. The fashion app Daydream launched two features on Monday using the iOS 27 developer tools: one analyzes outfit photos saved in the Photos app and surfaces matches from a catalog of roughly 3 million products, and another lets users search for clothing through Siri without opening the app. Both require an iPhone running iOS 27 with Siri AI enabled.
