Meta launches Muse, a personal AI agent that acts on users' accounts and purchases
The agent runs inside a dedicated virtual machine, connects to email, calendars, and payments, and is powered by a new model called Muse Spark.
Meta on Tuesday introduced Muse, a personal AI agent for users in the United States that carries out everyday tasks rather than only answering questions. Meta says Muse runs on Muse Secure VM, a dedicated virtual machine that holds both the agent and the person's data, and is powered by Muse Spark, which the company calls its most capable model to date. People interact with it by messaging in the Muse app or directly in WhatsApp. The agent connects to a user's apps and services, including email, calendars, payments, health and fitness, smart home, dining, shopping, music, and events. Meta says it can send emails, book travel, lower bills, fill out forms, build plans, turn recipe reels into grocery lists, send invitations, and make purchases using Link by Stripe for checkout, with Shopify's Shop Pay and 1Password integrations also available. For longer tasks Muse keeps working after the app is closed and returns for approval before sending an email or making a purchase. TechCrunch notes the launch comes less than two weeks after Meta agreed to an $18 billion multistate settlement over social media consumer harms, and that Muse asks consumers to trust Meta with more personal information than ever before. The Verge describes the product as the latest step in a multi-billion-dollar overhaul of Meta's AI strategy.
