Apple opens Siri AI to third-party apps through a developer preview in the 27.3 betas

Apps can now expose their own content and actions so Siri AI can check deliveries, book reservations or place orders, using personal context and onscreen awareness.

Apple announced on November 3 that the Siri AI Developer Preview is open to all developers through the iOS 27.3, iPadOS 27.3, macOS 27.3 and visionOS 27.3 betas. Developers can expose custom content and actions through App Intents, so Siri AI can handle requests such as checking a delivery, booking a reservation or placing an order. This takes Siri AI beyond the actions and data that fit Apple's predefined app schemas. Integrations can use personal context and onscreen awareness, so people can phrase requests in their own words. Siri AI can also surface any entity in Spotlight's semantic index, not only those that match an existing schema. Under the preview documentation, users do not need to name an app when it is in the foreground, when it has an active Live Activity, or when continuing a Siri conversation that already involved it. Requests to apps in the background must name the app. Apple has also started rolling out related features in its own apps, including Calendar, Files, Mail, Maps, Messages, Photos and Shortcuts. Examples include finding a coffee shop the user visited before and archiving files that have not been opened in more than a year. For developers, this is the first broad chance to build for Apple's revamped assistant ahead of a wider release.
