Three unannounced 'Aurora' model names reportedly appear in OpenAI's API, but there is no sign they work
A post on X listed aurora-blue-alpha, aurora-green-alpha and aurora-red-alpha without showing any successful request.

Three model identifiers, aurora-blue-alpha, aurora-green-alpha and aurora-red-alpha, have appeared in OpenAI's API, according to an October 18 post on X by the account Lisan al Gaib (@scaling01). RuntimeWire, which reported the post, notes that it included no API response, no model metadata and no successful request showing that developers can actually call the names. OpenAI has not announced the identifiers or said what they refer to. Strings like these sometimes appear before a release, but on its own a name in a list says nothing about a model's capabilities, pricing, availability or timing. RuntimeWire says the names may point to new OpenAI model variants but do not show that anything is callable. It warns that treating an unverified identifier as a released model could lead developers to build against access and behavior that have not been documented. For now, the report shows only that the names were spotted. Developers who depend on OpenAI's platform have nothing confirmed to plan around until the company publishes documentation or makes an announcement. The edition is reporting this because OpenAI's model releases affect many downstream products, and because unverified sightings like this one spread widely among developers.
