Google releases Gemini 4 Argon worldwide as its new frontier model, priced at $2 per million input tokens
Argon replaces the Gemini Pro line and ranks first on the Vals Index. Free and Plus users stay on Flash models, and Google is widening its Fairwind cyber-defender program.

Google made Gemini 4 Argon available worldwide on October 13. Developers and businesses can use it through the API in AI Studio and the Gemini platform. Google AI Ultra subscribers can use it in Google Antigravity, and Ultra and Pro subscribers get it in the Gemini app and in AI Mode in Search. Google says Argon is built for long, multi-step work in coding, finance, law, cybersecurity and science, and that it ranks first on the Vals Index. The introductory price is $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, with cached input tokens 95 percent cheaper. The Decoder reports that Argon replaces the Gemini Pro class as Google's frontier series. Under a new tier structure, free Gemini users and Plus subscribers only get the weaker Flash models. Google says more Gemini 4 models are coming. In a separate safety post, Google calls Argon's cyberdefense abilities frontier-level. Before the launch, it gave the model to cyber defenders through its Fairwind Program. Google says Wiz used it to find a critical bug in hospital software that earlier models had missed. Google's own teams found flaws affecting systems worldwide, which are now going through responsible disclosure. Google is expanding Fairwind to more trusted defenders. This is the official release of a model that had earlier appeared only in leaks and A/B tests.
