Microsoft prices its Nvidia-powered Surface AI PCs and adds agent sandboxing and file access for Copilot in Windows 11
The Surface Laptop Ultra starts at $2,599, and a $5,999 developer box ships in November. Windows 11 gains 'Execution Containers' for isolating AI agents.

At an event in San Francisco, Microsoft gave pricing and release details for its first PCs built on Nvidia's RTX Spark Arm-based chip. The Surface Laptop Ultra starts at $2,599 for a configuration with an 8-core CPU, 24GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, and goes on sale October 16. TechCrunch reports that a more powerful base model starts at $3,700 and that configurations go up to $5,900, with the top model already out of stock. The Surface RTX Spark Dev Box, a mini PC for developers that comes with VS Code, GitHub Copilot CLI, WSL and PowerShell 7, is available to preorder for $5,999 and ships in November. Microsoft pitches both machines as able to run AI models locally on the device. On the software side, a revamped Windows 11 adds Execution Containers, which Microsoft says make it easier to sandbox AI agents. CEO Satya Nadella said the feature will be available to all Windows 11 users. Microsoft also showed "Hybrid Intelligence" features that let Copilot use files on a user's PC to take actions across the operating system, along with a new search experience that supports quick actions. Together, the announcements give Copilot deeper access to personal files while adding a built-in way to contain agents. That matters as PC makers and AI companies push agents onto consumer devices.
