OpenAI launches Dots, always-on agents, at DevDay along with a cheaper GPT-6.1 Sol model

At its DevDay conference in San Francisco on Tuesday, OpenAI introduced Dots, personal agents powered by GPT-6 Astra that work toward user-defined goals continuously in the background. OpenAI calls them "remarkably capable, always-on agents built to handle everything." Dots are available now in ChatGPT for Pro and Business Premium users in eligible markets. Users can message them through Slack and Teams, and each one can be given its own identity, credentials and tools. The Verge describes Dots as a competitor to Meta's Muse. The company also released GPT-6.1 Sol, which it says nearly matches GPT-6 Astra on agentic coding and professional work. API prices are $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, which OpenAI says is a fifth of Astra's standard rates. Other announcements included Codex Security Cloud, which scans repositories for vulnerabilities; Computer Use in the Agents API; a Decisions API; and an Ultrafast tier billed at six times the standard rate. For office work, OpenAI added Space, Pages and collaborative slides. NBC News and the Associated Press noted that the launch came a day after OpenAI held back a model over safety concerns. They also reported that CEO Sam Altman did not address the security questions on stage.
